Community Ministries
The poorest of the poor will find pasture, and the needy will lie down in safety. - Isaiah 14:30a
Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody…is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat. - Mother Theresa
Vision
At All Angels’ Church we pledge allegiance to the Kingdom of God, actively pursuing justice, reconciliation and compassion on behalf of the oppressed and marginalized in our community and around the world. Community Ministries is our outreach to our homeless neighbors here on the Upper West Side. Our desire is to include, empower and equip our homeless brothers and sisters for full participation in the church community. We want to offer support, instill hope, empower independence, make disciples and train leaders.
Pathways
The Pathways ministry exists to empower people to become dependent on God, independent in self care and interdependent within the community. We afford men and women an opportunity to shower, receive mail, and obtain medical, psychiatric and social services. We also plan to offer life-building activities such a Job Club, ESL Class, Recovery Group and Discipleship classes in the fall of 2009. Pathways functions as a conduit into the larger community of All Angels’ Church. The ministry operates Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm (doors open for women at 8:30am).
Food Pantry
Our food pantry operates once a month on the fourth Monday of each month, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. We offer canned goods, rice, pasta orange juice, cereal and fresh vegetables. Pantry recipients must bring a referral from a church or social service agency in order to receive food. A referral may be available from St. Michael's Church @ 225 West 99th Street, 212.222.2700.
Sunday Ministries
On Sundays, all are invited to participate in a Bible study at 3:45pm, our 5:00pm Worship Service, and our Community Meal. Sunday evenings, our volunteer-run shelter houses 10 men and 10 women each week.
Leadership Training
All angels’ Church is committed to making disciples and training leaders. There will be a leadership training class, starting in the fall 2009, at 3:00pm on Sunday’s for those who are growing Christians and aspire to leadership positions in the church. Each participant is assigned a mature mentor to come alongside these potential leaders to provide support, accountability and discipleship.
See our Assistance Directory under the resources tab for other crisis and outreach organizations.
If you are interested in volunteering please fill out our Volunteer Inquiry Form.
Community Ministries Outreach
On the first Sunday of each month, we invite you to participate in an outreach to our homeless neighbors on the Upper West Side. In keeping with the Church’s vision of empowering people for missional living we will equip you to become companions with the poor in our community. We are seeking the following outcomes for this ministry:
1. To develop relationships of compassion and support to our homeless neighbors. 2. To inform people of the services offered at All Angels’ Church and other resources in our community. 3. To invite people back to the Evening Service and Community Meal. 4. To share the gospel with the poor.
We will begin at 1:30 pm with an informal training and then go out into the Community in groups of two or three. We will have a short debriefing back at the Church at 4:00 pm. Come join in the mission of Jesus, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. (Luke 4:18) Please RSVP to Eric Mull, emull@allangelschurch.com.
